Kaadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Aeppadi

Men are from Mars… Women are from Venus…
We have heard about this, isn’t it?

Women think a lot… At least a ton of thoughts keep playing in the back of their mind every second. Thinking comes naturally to them. It may be as vain as their hair style to as complex as what others are thinking in a given point of time.

Men on the other hand, think less. They are more reactive. They react more than act in a given situation. They adapt to circumstances. They like to hang around with friends and play till each muscle gives up. Women prefer shopping to games. Indeed… Shopping includes window shopping as well!

The scenario that erupts when two opposite poles – man and woman – come together is well depicted in well accepted movie Kaadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Aeppadi

The narrative is fresh and interactive. As an audience, you would feel like a friend is narrating his love story to you. It is crisp and also funny at times.

About Sidharath?
For the first time, I saw him in the movie named “Boys”. But, that was nine years before! He looks just as young as he did nine years before… Unbelievable!!! He is very convincing as Arun. He is confused. Yet tries miserably to impress his love! He understands a girl’s complex thought procedure and helps friends with their love. However, he trembles considerably in winning his girl’s heart.

Amala Paul looks like a cross breed of Deepika Padukone in Break ke baadh and Priyanka chopra in Kameenay. Her outfits are cute and she acts convincingly. Special accolades to her dubbing artist – Deepa Venkat; she has done a good job. Her voice helps us to associate with her character rather easily. Her character, Parvathi, is that of a normal girl with a familial background that is breaking.

The Director has attempted to showcase love story in a different angle. I loved the portion where Parvathi’s parent’s romantic endeavors are portrayed. It funnily speaks the truth – love never grows old with time. It only grows with time!

The songs are not magical; but, they are piucturised pleasingly. I liked the parts where Arun struggles to befriend Parvathi… Then feel nervous about asking her contact number… And those scenes where Arun miss her unconditionally for an entire after forgetting his cell phone at home…

The screenplay lags at many places. The narrative starts to take a toll on you. As an audience, we start to feel as if someone is giving lecture non-stop.

However, I say… Go for it…
It is a light hearted love story…
An easy way to excuse from all the daily routine life…
To enliven the teenager within, if you are not one!
And to understand what not to do in love if you are a teenager!

And hey…!!!
Catch the movie on Vijay TV this Sunday… (3rd June, 2012)
I am expecting your point of views too.

Enjoy!!
All the best…
Kaadhalla sodhappaama erukka!! Y Y Y

Beyond seasons…

Summer may not be the best of seasons. Sweat… Merciless sun… heat… Ouch!! The climate would be too nerving. Yet, summer is the only time to have loads of fun. Summer vacations are the best time ever. It is the longest of vacations and it gives ample opportunity to step out of home and have tons of fun!

Though the summer has almost reached its end, I feel elated to write how I would enjoy a hot sunny day with Kyra. Thanks to Lakme and Indiblogger for giving such an opportunity…

Beyond seasons…

My eyes are glistening…  After all, they were witnessing the first snow… Amidst of mighty hills and people covered with woolen clothes, I am staring in disbelief. I have never felt so cold in my life, though I was able to feel the sweat even on my palms. … I am wondering how nature can be so contradicting. Yet, I was enjoying.

“Get up you lazy bum”, yells a sweet voice. I wonder from where Kyra has appeared.

Oops!! That was a dream, I realize. As I wake up to the reality, tiny beads of sweat breaks and I find golden sun blazing mercilessly. I understand that I am at the hottest Chennai and not at the coolest Srinagar.

“Oye! You better wake up. We are supposed to go for shopping today”, shrieks Kyra.

Kyra is my class-mate cum room-mate. We have been sharing room for the past four years and that day was the last day together. The day to part has come. We wanted to have fun to the maximum and enjoy to the fullest. We didn’t even want the fierce Sun to come in between.

Thus, we got ready. I wore a light blue denims and simple white embroidered shirt. Kyra was already beaming in a kakhee capris and a white tee-shirt. I smiled at myself thinking how different we are as persons, yet how proximate we feel with each other. She is my best pal. I can’t think of another who can be as sharp contrast to me as she is or as understanding as her.

“The last day”, we both sheepishly smiled at each other.

Being the girls that we are, we started our last day out by catching the crowded 12B bus to Pondy Bazaar. The bus was way too crowded to handle. We had our second bath for the day – bathed with sweat!

Almost all the shops had something impressive. We enjoyed the privilege of being the first customer for the day. So, we were given hearty cash discounts. Thus, our bargaining skills were awarded suitably. We bought a few tees and sandals. Then, a vanity bag! Indeed, loads of bangles and ear rings!

We felt ecstatic at the manner at which our shopping progressed. The shop-keepers were amazed at our energy level. Their look conveyed their thoughts which obviously said what these girls are doing under the hottest Sun! Little they knew; it was our last day out.

We had our sun glasses on. Yet, the Sun was too piercing. It drank all our energy. But, we rejuvenated ourselves with frequent refreshments. It varied from soft drinks to ice creams to tender coconut. After some time, our foot started to remind us of its existence. So, we sat under the shade of the trees planted on the either sides of the road.

As shopping progressed, our baggage swelled. The hole on the pocket widened and our energy level started to go down. Eventually, our determination and ardent urge to shop superseded the hot Sun. The Sun started to grow less gruesome.

Myself and Kyra caught another bus to Santhom beach. Well, the World loves Marina beach. But, due to reasons unknown, we love Santhom beach. May be because it is less crowded! May be because it is more welcoming than menacing!

We, then, sat cross legged on the sand. It was damp, yet a warm. The waves of the majestic sea made us think rather philosophically. We discussed how life is like the waves of ocean filled with innumerous ups and downs. We could not believe that four years had fluttered so fast.

We discussed about our first acquaintance at the college cafeteria. It was a sunny afternoon and we both were sweating profusely. Our first topic of discussion was about how hot Chennai is! There started our friendship. Like love at first sight, ours was friendship at first sight. We laughed at how we used to feel insecure about gaining sun tan. We used to wander in search of sun screen lotions. We were too scared to step out of the shade of room for some days. Then, by shredding all those inhibitions, we started to go out. We explored all the places and drank its beauty completely.

Slowly, the sun started to set. It looked like a huge orange ball. We removed our sunglasses and watched it through our naked eyes. It looked divine. Eventually, darkness started to engulf us. We walked towards the bus stop to catch bus to our hostel room.

We were too happy. After all, a day well spent. We had a pint of smile on our faces. The Sun was tough on us all through the day. Yet, towards the end, it softened and made us feel its warmth.

Isn’t life so similar to the experience we had that day? Life may make you cry, grieve, annoy or irritate. But, at the end of the day, our heart will remember only the best moments. The moments when we laughed, felt happy and lively.

That night we started to pack. We didn’t sleep the whole night. We discussed the unforgettable four years. We shared many secrets and gossiped endlessly. Slowly, the Earth started to feel the heat. Kyra announced, “Our last dawn at Chennai” This time we didn’t sigh. Instead, we cried.

“Kyra , not only the Sun or Chennai for that matter is hot, but also the tears!” I surmised. Kyra joined, “yes, really hot beads of tears. Gonna miss the hottest sunny days”

We hugged each other, unmindful of the developing sweat.
Come on… Love surpasses beyond all the seasons!!!

Hmmm…

Hmmm…
Hug me tight…
Let me shred all the pain…

Hmmm…
Hug me tight…
Let me listen to your heart beats…

Yes…
I know for sure that you love me…
Yet I don’t know what keeps you far away from me…

Oh dear…
Draw me close to you…
Let the rhythm of your breath speak your love…

My dear… Hold me tight…
Let me feel protected from the World…
Hold me so tight that I feel closer to my World

Tell me...

You are hurting me…
But I am enduring…
Never once complaining…
Because I am foreseeing…
A rather happy ending…

Tell me…
Who can keep you happy?
Who can love you unconditionally?
Who can understand you completely?
Who can accept you as you are?

Yet…
You are running away…
Too far away geographically…
Still I feel you within eternally…
As if you are born for me…

Will my prayers be answered?
Will my dreams come true?
Will you hold my hand for a lifetime?
Or will you walk away as a mere dream…
Leaving me devastated and despaired!

A calendar too crowded

First of all…
I was gifted with an opportunity to come across an interestingly titled book – A calendar too crowded by Sagarika Chakraborty . My curiosity heightened as I read the synopsis.   I came to know that it talks about the topic of all time – women and the problems faced by them! The World talks about the women power and their constructive role in building a healthy tomorrow. But, are women given with equal rights? Are they enjoying all the privileges that are enjoyed by men?

Book Blurb…
A Calendar Too Crowded is a collection of poignant stories and poems woven around the theme of womanhood. What makes this work of fiction different from other books that highlight the plight of women is the unique approach.
There are quite a few days on the calendar that are devoted to women. The aim of remembering such days is simple enough; they serve the purpose of spreading awareness thereby attempting to protect the rights of women. Some of these marked days in the calendar have been imaginatively used as a starting point for the stories and poems in this book. So while the theme of a story under the month of January is inspired by national Day for the Girl Child in India (24 January) another story under the month of November takes up Elimination of Violence Against Women Day (25 November) as its focal point.
The intent, however, is to probe further and discover the ugly truth of women’s continuing subjugation. Some stories and poems explore the reality underlying popular misconceptions and misleading statistics that sometimes paint a rosy picture of women’s emancipation and liberation. Others use simple and undeniable facts to hold up to scrutiny many of the fallacies used against women in society.

And here I am…
Feeling enthralled that I could fix an interview with the author. Read on…
And hey… Don’t forget to grab a copy!!

v  Tell me about yourself
I am a lawyer, a marketing professional, a policy researcher, a citizen journalist, a writer, a thinker, a cooking enthusiast, a dancer, a lover, a daughter, a sister, a friend to a few but above it all I am a human who cares to bother what goes on around us.
My education is as varied as my zest for life. After pursuing science in school it was National Law University, Jodhpur I chose and then after a few years of legal profession, ISB Hyderabad that beckoned. I love to do a varied number of things and work as if there is no tomorrow. In fact, I live life as if there’s no tomorrow. I strongly feel that life is too short and there are too many things to do. I have just started with my dream run – to make a difference to the society.
v   What inspired you to come up with such an unusual concept?
My grandmother taught me that no matter where you go and what you do, never forget the society that groomed you to be what you are! The same society around me inspired me to write A Calendar Too Crowded. There are ills that mar the society and then there are us who just click tongues and discuss the wrong doings over a cup of tea.
I always believe that if there’s something that is bothering me about my society I should raise a voice and take a step. We can’t clean the world if the home is a dump ground right? So I decided to take this step with the most powerful tool ever – the pen!
v  Your take on female foeticide.

The power of procreation is the most wonderful of all blessings that have been bestowed on us. Yes, there are times when the boon seems like a bane and I do not think that going under the knife then is wrong – the right to life should be a healthy one! However, selective determination of sex goes beyond me and I think those who indulge in it are worse than even those creations of nature that are designed to eat up their off springs for survival.
During my research on the book I have met many a woman who has told me that they went ahead with female foeticide to save their girl child from a life of misery. Worse is that their mothers-in-law brainwashed them. Somewhere my own gender has let me down – instead of standing up it is decided to take the easy way out.
To all those women out there – if your mother too thought like that you wouldn’t today be living this gift called life, think about that!
v  Do you think women empowerment and equal rights for women will remain a hot topic of debate, and never a reality?

It is we who debate on it right and ironically it is us who shall make it a reality. The question thus lies whether we shall ever cross the line of debate, get up and decide it is high time we make it a reality. What good is a debate on equality at work if you resort to gossip about a female colleague who smokes or wears a short skirt and thus is presumed to be easy?
Till the time we decide it is enough – that we have spoken all that we need to and it is time for action, sadly a few like me will lose their voice while many others will just scream over a round of drinks!
v  Being a woman yourself, Tell us about one lady who never fails to inspire you.

My grandmother – no two ways about that! She’s the one who taught me that merely being literate is not enough one needs to know what goes on in the world and act on it to be educated. She taught me to think about others just the way I think about myself and that the mind and the pen are the best gifts ever that one can receive.
She taught me to think, to write, to never be scared of standing up for the right thing and yes that material gain can never give you satisfaction. True smile comes after a hard day of toiling where you have strived to make a difference to a life and thus can sleep with a smile on your face.

v  As a reader, What can we expect from the book?
Do not expect it to be a light read which you can finish off during a train/ flight journey. You need to read the stories over a long period of time because each story will make you question and think. Questions which the press has already asked you over and again but this time you will be asking them to yourself in your own voice.
It is not a feminist book however, the voices are all feminine. Women are not glorified – but presented with shades of grey. There are no names, because I want my readers to associate the voices in the book with a face they have encountered in their life.
The book is all about the days that the calendar marks as important for women however they just remain days of celebration and a one-time affair. The rest of the days are still drudgery with no remembrance of the face that the same man/woman who tortured the woman in their house wished them a Happy Mother’s Day or a Happy Women’s Day just the day before. Irony – that is what mainly a reader would discover.

The World is in my pocket

I knew for sure…
That I can write impressively…
But, I felt too lazy to refer the grandiose dictionary!

I wanted to read extensively…
Almost everything that interests me…
But, the affordability concerned me!

I wished that I stay close to my friends and relatives…
I wanted to keep in touch with them however far they were…
But, how? The question posed never derived any answer!

I wanted to feed the writer in me…
I wanted the World to read my work…
But, I wondered how that could be possible!

I have been a huge movie buff…
And songs have always been a weakness…
But, I could not gather all my favorite songs in one go!

The list goes on and on…
The questions and doubts only multiplied…
And the solution remained as a puzzle!

Finally…
It came…
A mobile phone with internet connection!!!

Internet… The fastest growing network ever! It has the charm of that of a drug. Once you start using it, you get addicted to it. In a way, it has become an inevitable part of our life. Most of the times, we rely on internet to get details. That always makes me wonder how our yester year generation managed to do everything without internet!

Computer and internet was once a luxury. Now a necessity!

Internet graduated to became so integral to our daily life that we wished to be connected to it all the time. We started feeling that carrying a desktop started seeming onerous. Thus, laptops arrived. Then laptops seemed too huge. So, smart phones emerged. As more and more people started using internet, more cost effective mobile phones came into market.

And now… The world is in the pocket…
Thanks to the mobile phones with GPRS… 2G… 3G... 4G… or whatever!!

Well… I am also one among the trillions who is entwined in the mesh of internet. I am also a user of smart phone with internet connection to it.

Wow!!
Now… All my questions have fetched me answers…  How??

Well… I have relocated to quite a few places in my childhood. On account of that, I have lost contact of many of my friends. I carried their memories, but did not know how to get in touch with them. That is where social networking sites like orkut, facebook and twitter comes into picture. They update about our friends and we feel connected. I am now connected with friends whom I have not seen for a decade!

The mobile applications like whatspp and ebuddy. They help me to chat with friends who are spread across the globe. I cannot ask for more. It is more cost effective. Most importantly, we need not worry about any restrictions of only 100 sms per day and all that. We can chat as much as we want.

Then the application that helps to find the location! I travel a lot. And this particular application informs me where I have reached when I am travelling. Besides, whenever I am in a new place, some applications help me find restaurants and ATM counters.

Ok…
Now I wish to share a couple of instances where mobile internet played a very magical role…
This incident took place a year before during the peak summer. It was a time when night time was also as hot as sunny afternoon. And alas! Power went off. It was past midnight and the heat was driving me crazy. I felt so crazy that I started to Google the translations for the word “crazy” in various languages. I smiled within wondering how crazy my mind has become. That thought provoked me to search for the translations for the word “mind” in diverse languages. Eventually, I coined the conglomeration of two Spanish words… The name of my blog was thus born – LOCOMENTE!!! If power had not gone off… If that night was not that hot… If I did not have internet facility in my mobile phone… I may not be here posting all this!!!

Another amazing instance ended rather romantically. My cousin brother’s engagement was fixed in haste. The astrologer declared that the engagement has to be scheduled in a week because the next auspicious date falls after almost a month. According to our custom the groom’s family is supposed to buy the engagement sari to the bride. There was no time to courier and ensure that the sari reaches her in such a way enabling her to buy all the accessories. We were also not very aware of the likes and dislikes of our new entrant. It was now the internet enabled mobile phone came handy. My brother sent her a MMS with the pictures of our best pick. She chose her favorite from among those! Our family felt happy and the new entrant was impressed…!!!

Sometimes, mobile internet plays the role of a pal. Especially when we are alone! It fills the gap between us and the World outside. It makes us feel complete; as if the entire World rests in our pocket. I really cannot imagine a life without it, though I always wonder how we used to live without it once. It seems like that was light years before! They say change is inevitable! Today’s generation is obsessed and rather dependent on it completely. I am no exception. I am glad to admit that. After all, I am having enough fun with it. The World is in my pocket. My loved ones are held so close to my heart… What an entertaining yet informative way to have oodles and oodles of fun!!!

Thank you - A 50,000 times!!!

How selfish I am…
Yet how proud I am that I am selfish!!
I am feeling so happy that my blog has attained the stage of 50,000 hits…
I should be thanking my readers for viewing it right…??

A journey of six months…
And 50,000 hits…
I am feeling proud…
Very proud!!!

I know I am not the best writer…
I know my topics are too personal most of the time…
Yet… I feel delighted…
My baby blog has started walking…

Its steps in the blogosphere are becoming stronger on each passing day…

So…
The thank you time has come!!!

I thank all my friends whom I earned during articleship. They happen to be my first readers!!!
Then, my present colleagues who tell me that they read my blog…
My family and all other friends…
Then… all my neighbors in blogosphere!!!

Of course…
Facebook… Blogadda… Indiblogger!!!
Haiku heights!!
And inevitably… Google!!!

Sometimes words will be too meager to express…
This is one of those times…
I am seeing my baby blog grow…
I am watching the growth like a proud parent…

Oh… I am becoming greedy on each passing day…
I will be coming back with yet another thank you message…
But only when my blog gets one lakh hits…
Please let that happen soon!!!

The Locomente wants to say THANK YOU – a 50,000 times!!!
That’s all for now…
Happy reading…
Expecting oodles and oodles of comments…

Mask

Yes… We all act, isn't it?
And we always hide our nature
Thus… Always mask on

Remove the mask
Truth brings happiness
Not acting!

How long can you act?
No… Mask is not permanent
Come… Get out of shell

Ouch… Mask pains
Please… Get rid of it
Don’t endure!

No... This is not love!!!

My head is pounding…
My heart is racing…
Entire body is shivering…
I am staring at the vacuum…

No thoughts are being processed…
I don’t feel like sleeping…
I don’t feel like working…
Not even like blogging!!!

Oh…
What has happened to me?
I am asking myself…
But my mind is too drained to answer…

So…
 I consulted a third person…
He glared at me…
One look and there he concluded…

You are caught by fever…
Take rest!!!

After all...
He was a doctor!!!
