Thattathin Marayathu

Vinod, a Hindu boy, falls for Muslim girl Ayesha on the first sight. His love magnifies with each passing day. His friends add fuel to his feeling and he vows to himself that Ayesha will be the lady of his life. But, innumerous problems creep in. Will Vinod succeeds in befriending his lady love forms the rest of the story.

Indeed… There is nothing new in the plot. But, the narrative is fresh. The characters are real. They can be anyone.. U… or me… anyone. That adds to the charm of the film.

First half scores and the audience are bathed with the feel of genuine love. The innocence of Vinod and the mesmerizing beauty of Ayesha work like a magic.

But, the second half stifles. It seems like a never ending epic drama. But, as audience, we still would be spellbound by the magical spell cast by the first half. Hence, we would not dare to complain.

Manoj.K.Jayan strikes a chord instantly. Sreenivasan as Ayesha’s father is portrayed as an understanding mother in his disguise.

Aww… Nivin Pauly as the lovable Vinod is sweet. His mannerisms continue to bring a smile in our face. The streak of genuineness and the thirst to succeed in love is beautifully enacted by him.

Isha Talwar as the gorgeous Ayesha is appealing. Her veil and the strands of hair that sways to the tune of breeze makes us wonder if she is an enigma or the charming Goddess. She smiles. She loves. She cries. She also rebels to get her Prince. At the same time she understands the traditional values and commits to abide by those rules.

The songs are pleasant. I particularly liked the Muthuchippi song and the heart warming Anuraagathin velayil.
But, somehow, the movie kept reminding me of so many movies I have watched like Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya and Vaaranam Aayiram. Even the font used to write “thattathin marayath” and the color tone used impeccably resembles that of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaay. And the mannerisms of Vinod made me think of Surya of Vaaranam Aayiram. Ouch! Wasn’t Ayesha’s character similar to Mini of Aniyathipraavu?

On a brighter note, I have loved all the above mentioned and I only felt happy that these movies inspired the director to venture into such a heart-warming romantic saga.

I really enjoyed the dialogs…
The chemistry shared by Vinod with his friends…
The way in which the secularism was fed through the narrative…

I would say decent job…
Go for it…
Feel young…
Feel fresh…

And please take away the veil of caste of religion. Life is beyond that. So is friendship and relationships.

I go with 3.5 stars for this unusual and breezy love story….
After all, it brought a sweet smile in my face and in many others’ too!!!

  1. Dear locomente,
Wat yu said is really true.. it Brings a smile on everyone's face and a breeze in everyone's heart..
A small correction in the story...Srinivasan is Ayesha's father and not his Uncle...

The story is so nicely narrated by you.. But dont yu think, you were a bit harsh while giving 3.5 stars... cant it be a 4/5...

And no 4 stars... Coz of the struggling screenplay of 2nd half... And for shamelessly reminding innumerous other films
