Madrasapatnam... Deivathirumagal...
And now, it is Thaandavam...
It
was director Vijay who drew me to the theatre to watch Vikram and Anoushka
starrer Thaandavam.
The
movie revolves around a blind protagonist enacted effortlessly by Vikram. Then
the story unravels the events that rendered Vikram blind.
Vikram
as one of the top Police officers is full of energy. The way he softens as a
person on meeting his love aka Anoushka, is charming. Then, as a person who
takes revenge on people who took innumerous innocent lives, including his
wife's is convincing.
Anoushka
comes across as a career oriented woman. Her characterization is a surprise in
comparison to all the stereotyped heroines we get to see.
Songs
are not very captivating. Compared to GV Prakash's gifts like Pookkal pookkum tharunam in Madrasapatnam
and Aariro song... Vizhigalil oru
vaanavil in Deivathirumagal... None
of the songs is impressive... But background score is good. Especially that
piano composition...
I
would say the narrative is actually good. Though the movie has nothing new to
offer, it doesn’t disappoint us. It is certainly not as different and spell-bounding
as Vijay’s other two films though. May be I am expecting too much!
I
really don’t understand why Emy Jackson’s character is imposed into it. Ins
spite of a poor characterization, she has done her part well.
Nassar
comes across as a calculative and sharp minded Police official. Santhanam has
added lighter moments into the film. Saranya Ponvannan, though comes across for
a brief time, leaves lasting impression in our heart. They are made to play
roles that come naturally to them. And they do justice.
In
short, I would say that Thaandavam can
be a onetime watch… For actor Vikram and Director Vijay; for the unforgettable
movies they have gifted! Also for actor Anoushka; for taking up such an
unconventional and deglamorised role!
A
2.5 stars for the film…
It
could have been lot better…
Given
the better piece of works given by them...
