Fateful Stroke

At eighty two, Jonathan was unhappy.

His wife passed away soon after Joanne’s birth. Then he became their daughter’s mother and world.

But his sudden stroke changed their lives forever.

Joanne was forced to take up their restaurant business and take care of her fragile father. She did all her chores with a smile. Her love helped him to recover.

But it was too late!

Joanne who was fourty five now was unmarried. Her selflessness made him restless.

As he passed along a mannequin wearing bridal outfit during an evening stroll, his heart pricked.

He wished he had died when stroke hit him...

  1. Dear Satya,

First on the list today. A sad story indeed. On a practical note, it's spelled mannequin and you need an "an" before evening stroll.
Unfortunately for some realization comes late in life or, worse, not at all. Nice one.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  2. It heartbreaking how a story about love can have such a sad ending.

Just a note: you have Joanne twice earlier in the story, but Joanna near the end.

  3. Hopefully there's still time for him to change his ways and show some love to his daughter, changing that sad ending to a happy one. Who knows? Stranger things have happened.

    1. Lets hope so...

But he does love his daughter..
Its just that he was helplessly unwell throughout that phase of Joanne's life when she should have settled down in life...

      Thanks Janet

  6. What a mournful wistful write. It seems Joanne inherited her selflessness from her father.

  10. The fact is that life deals many uneven hands to us. The best we can do is make the best of it. A poignant story.

  11. Dear Satya,

This is why I believe in reincarnation. Selfless love must be rewarded. Great story.

    Aloha,
