The End...

It was a cloudy afternoon and he was feeling restless. In spite of the pleasant climate, beads of sweat broke on his forehead. He felt dizzy.

He gulped some water and told himself that he was alright. He tried to ignore the panic and continued to drive the truck laden with bales of hay.

He diverted his mind and forced himself to focus on the road. Memories of his ageing mother and beautiful wife flashed in his mind.

He stopped the truck on road-side and dialled 911. He blurted his location and hurriedly dialled his wife’s number.

The ring was still going on when he breathed for one last time….

  5. I loved that his final action was to call the one he loved. If only it had at least gone to voicemail.

  14. I feel that if it is only a story and we have a chance to change, it can always have a more hopeful ending, of course the reality can never be changed.Message is good.

    1. May be this story gives a warning - That we should always let our loved ones know about the love we feel... And also compels us to notice the alarms that our body lets out...

May be there is something positive from each negative...

      Thanks Vijaya...
I am unable to think of another ending for this story...

May be next time... Sometime later! :)

    2. Yes, Love always needs to be expressed in a right way and in the right time, it needs no logic and wait when it is with our loved ones.Time doesn't wait, always pay attention.Got your thought Satya.

  15. So sad that he didn't get to say goodbye to his wife. I like your comment above that the moral is always tell your loved ones you love them and heed the warning signs.

  17. Glad the driver had the wisdom to get off the road and avoid further tragedies. I've been a witness to wrecks that happened when a driver wasn't so self-aware.

    Kind regards,

  21. Good story - really enjoyed it. You never know when you are going to be doing something so routine as driving a hay truck home, and then before you know it - there is a heart attack on the way. Great take on prompt! Thanks, Nan
