Free from Pretense

She stared at the distance and let the eeriness of silence sink within.

The fresh breeze, clear sky and the blunt terrain spread a strange sense of serenity. The place was free from pretense. Its rawness added to its beauty.

She wished that people were like that too; raw and free from pretense. Sometimes being selfish is alright as long as you acknowledge it and don’t try to pretend that you are not.

She closed her eyes and observed her thoughts. Loneliness was killing her. There was no one in her life; neither family nor friends.

But, solitude seemed blissful in the lap of Mother Nature.

Umpteen unchannelized thoughts flowed within until she fell asleep…

PS: Big-big thanks to Rochelle  and all the friends I made from her initiative… Thanks for coming up with wonderful image prompt and thanks for being a constant source of inspiration… Thanks for making my Wednesdays wonderful!!!

  1. Dear Satya,

While I'm most comfortable in my own company, sometimes solitude isn't what it's cracked up to be. Sometimes it just translates to loneliness. You've captured that feeling in this piece.

And you are so welcome. A year and a half ago I'd only been writing with Friday Fictioneers for six months when Madison announced that she was moving onto other things and put out feelers for someone to take it over. Like you, I've made some good friends through this. Anyway, long story short, I'm addicted to this challenge and don't plan to relinquish it anytime soon. Happy Wednesday!

    shalom,

    Rochelle

  4. Being by yourself can sometimes be lonely and sometimes a necessary restorative time. You captured those ideas in your story. Hopefully she finds her way back to the joys of solitude because she has people back in her life.

  9. Solitude and loneliness are Siamese twins-sometimes one pretends to be the other ;-)Also,sometimes raw and unpretentious is too hard to digest-we human beings have such fragile egos, lol!Liked the flow of thoughts in this piece and enjoyed the serene feel of the atmosphere you created-good job Satya:-)

  10. There are moments when blissful solitude can be like this... and it certainly beats loneliness in a room full of pretentious people...
