Ananya was on honeymoon with Rahul.
It was a perfect arranged marriage where parents
matched their birth-charts first, then, arranged the girl-boy meet. One glance,
Ananya knew that Rahul was her soul mate.
As she walked with Rahul, she felt complete. The
morning mist, dew drops on leaves and the subtle chill breeze added to the
romance in air.
Until, Rahul confessed.
“Ananya, I… Um… I am a gay. I can’t… You know…” he
said.
No, she did not know. Ananya wished that it was a
lie or a prank. But, it was not.
“I was scared to tell my parents about…” his voice
trailed.
Ananya’s perfect world came to an abrupt end.
Oh! my god, that's a heart break:(...The boy in my opinion is a coward.
ReplyDeleteVandana, the boy is coward..
DeleteIt also shows how closed parents-child relationship was and how unapproachable they were.
And sadly, the girl's dream are shattered.
Thanks :)
The arranged marriage .. the difficulties being gay.. it's a strange world we live in.
ReplyDeleteVery true...
DeleteIn arranged marriage, parents are more focused on the birth charts and boy's family than the boy per se.
That's stranger...
Thanks Bjorn :)
Dear Satya,
ReplyDeleteThis certainly has a hit-you-in-the-gut ending. So I suppose they end up just being roommates? No doubt this will rock the family tree. Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
If the girl is brave, which is not so in most the cases, she might walk out.
DeleteElse, they might end up as roommates.
Thanks Rochelle, for the wonderful prompt and the comment of course :)
Still a long time to go when it shall be accepted!
ReplyDeleteSadly true...
DeleteThanks :)
Locomente, Good and very sad story. I'm thinking that the girl should explain to her parents why there will be NO GRANDCHILDREN EVER and see what affect that has. Some marriage sights now have descriptions saying that there was a divorce with no "issue" and this is getting more acceptable. That was a contract and the groom's family didn't really honor it. Chances are they knew about their son and just didn't say anything. Well written. : ) ---Susan
ReplyDeleteYes Susan, the situation is too complex. As they say, its her fate...
DeleteThanks :)
I liked this story. It very real, full of humanity and tenderly told. I don't think he was a coward, but your description of the girl's feelings was first rate.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hamish :)
DeleteNicely crafted piece, full of life's heartbreaks.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot :)
DeleteKind of puts a good-sized damper on things.
ReplyDeleteSadly yes...
DeleteThanks :)
These poor people! Life has a way of throwing a wrench in things, doesn't it? Happiness squashed. Good job.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot!
DeleteWhat a difficult situation for them both! I'm sure he didn't want to confess and so just went on with the marriage, which wasn't fair to her, but understandable in some ways. For her, what a crushing blow. They might be soul mates, but nothing more. Very sad and very well depicted.
ReplyDeletejanet
Life can be crazy and have a very nasty sense of humor at time!
DeleteThanks Janet...
Perils of not knowing what you are getting !
ReplyDeleteSomething that will always be there...
DeleteThanks :)
You brought out a very crude fact in this story which displays the immaturity of parents particularly during the time of marriage and they always say they know the best . Amazing write up .Keep up the good work .
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Sushree :)
DeleteI wonder how they will live their lives happily cloaked in a lie?
ReplyDeleteIf they dont have a choice...
DeleteMaybe they have to...
Thanks :)
How terrible, for both of them. A very delicate way of dealing with this awful predicament. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot :)
DeleteSo many dreams lost just because of non-communication!A beautifully poignant and realistic take on the prompt Satya. Good job :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Atreyee :)
