My Thoughts
Debutant director Girish A.D’s Movie Thanneer Mathan Dinangal
is a comical yet beautiful ode to the two years of life in higher secondary
school in Kerala. Jaison (Mathew Thomas) has three sorrows in life which
includes his love interest Keerthy (Anaswara Ranjan) and his maverick Malayalam
teacher Ravi Padmanabhan (Vineeth Srinivasan). The movie is all about what
happens to these sorrows.
Each actor in the film has lived through the character arcs. Mathew
Thomas as Jaison portrays the angst of a teenager brilliantly. Anaswara Ranjan
as Keerthy is cute and playful. Vineeth
Srinivasan as the quirky teacher would often remind us of our one teacher or
other. The twist in the end further makes the movie a joyride. It also
addresses one of the key issues faced by today’s educational system. All other
supporting actors like Vaishakh Vijayan (Dennis), Naslen (Melbin Mathew), Franco
francis (Lintappan) and Sree Renjini (Aswathy, the English Teacher) amongst others
stays in our hearts.
Cinematography presents each frame like a stunning painting. The
background score as well as the song Jaathikka
thottam blends perfectly with the tone of the film. Editing is crisp and
the situational humor in the dialogs ensures that there is no boring moment.
The success of the film lies in the fact Thanneer Mathan Dinangal
depicts the school life as is. The kids look like kids, thinks like kids and behaves
as kids. Since the element of realism makes it nostalgic, it is a perfect
excuse to take some time out with the family. Don’t miss it!
