Of course, I love you
But I cannot marry you
He said stubbornly
Then she just stared back,
Helplessly; and words failed her
Tears rolled down her cheeks
Love and commitment...
Two different things those were!
Realization dawned
PS: Can you believe it? This is my 200th Haiku! OMG!!!
wow, what a hard conversation that must have been. People have many views on marriage, but it's great to be loved.
ReplyDeleteThese "many views" is the problem in commitment...
DeleteThanks a lot :)
well capture, that moment of truth and awareness. I like this,
ReplyDeleteThanks Alan :)
DeleteAnd then was that love.. really?....Sometimes we tend to define relations in a way that suits and makes it comfortable..often .leading to total mess... well..Satya you have a way with expression...
ReplyDeleteRS:)
So true sir...
DeleteMany a times we tend to get absorbed in ourselves that we ignore what others would feel...
Thanks sir :)
I can empathize with the woman. Love and commitment are actually the same. Only those who love you can be committed to you. The woman should just open her eyes to the fact that her man does not love her.
ReplyDeleteI wish she does that soon...
DeleteOr may be he might change is mind!!
Thanks Madhumakhi :)
...aww, this is a bitter offering... it's so easy to love... but commitment is a different thing not all has the courage to possess... smiles...
ReplyDeleteSo true...
DeleteThanks Kelvin :)
Love is not at influenced by status, anything financial or any cultural impetus. Love and marriage business arrangements are separate issues. Love is a terrible thing which makes people crazy. I am not sure if it is good for anyone unless it is mutual and of equal intensity which is extremely rare. Enjoyed your haiku.
ReplyDeleteYou have pit across a poignant point...
DeleteThat love and marriage is different...
Thanks Rallenta :)
Commitment phobic or was it not love strong enough to stay together. Love should culminate to togetherness. lovely haiku and can imagine what she must be feeling.
ReplyDeleteShe must be going through a tough phase..
DeleteAfter all, she is made to make choices...
Thanks Kalpana :)
Oh gosh that's harsh. Thankfully I've never had to face this one., but I hope I know what I would do. This Is a powerful write.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot :)
DeleteOh how sad. A heartbreaking place to be. But even sadder were they to marry and her to realize he lacked commitment after the fact. Now she is free for true love to find her.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very positive way of looking at it...
DeleteThanks a lot Sherry :)
Actually, I think better to see the truth of things--always--
ReplyDeleteBut even truth can be subjective...
DeleteThanks Audrey :)
You sure laid it out without a doubt in this poem. Both together for the win.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan :)
DeleteI see, and have also experienced, the truth of this situation but I still don't understand it. Isn't love the motivator that makes commitment desirable?
ReplyDeleteIt should be so..
DeleteBut sadly it is not most of the times...
Thanks a lot :)
And I say good riddance!
ReplyDeleteOuch! That's tough
DeleteThank you :)
Good one. Poignant.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alice :)
DeleteVery touching!! The sentiments depicted by you are so realistic.Well done Satya.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot madam :)
DeleteYes ... always so different :-(
ReplyDeleteYes it is...
DeleteThanks Amrit :)
Love can be very cruel and hurting too...nicely done Satya!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Reshma :)
DeleteBut the right love is glorious, intense haiku!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl :)
Deletelove the last word ''realization'' ! perfect Grimace of all grimaces.
ReplyDeleteThanks Milan :)
DeleteWow! Nice take! I really liked the poetic tale....true!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tarang :)
Deleteya ya ,,,,,its true commitment is very necessary and those who run away do not deserve it .......
ReplyDeleteHow I wish that they don't run away.. And that they understand and give back the much needed love...!!!
DeleteThanks a lot Suraj! :)
Really touching.. Well they say you get what you give but may be not from the same source. I pray, you get all that love, you gave, in multiples, back to you. (I hope this didnt happen with you satya)
ReplyDeleteI hope that prayers are heard and good things happen!
DeleteThanks Kannappa :)
