Alas!

Alas!
I pity today’s generation. I curse the electronic gadgets for transforming us into one dunce community. No offense folks! But you may disagree if you want; only after reading this fully though!

·     Mobile phones came, we forgot to mug-up our near and dears’ contact numbers.
·     Calendars in mobile and computer made it easier to feed our dear one’s birthdays and anniversaries. So we stopped storing them in our memories.
·        Apps on maps in our smartphones made us lazy to register the landmarks in our brain while going through a new route.
·         Telephones came and we stopped meeting people in person.
·         Facebook came and we don’t bother to ring them up and talk.
·         Video chats has made us lazy. So we travel less to our loved ones place.
·         Computer came and we forgot to write.
·         E-mails resulted in almost no handwritten letters. The anticipation and the anxiousness of waiting for a letter is gone forever.
·       Photographs can be shared in a click… By Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, e-mail or even MMS. Result? The eagerness to meet our loved ones in person is gone!
·         Calculators evolved and we stopped to do mental calculations.
·         E-shopping came. Joy of shopping with family and friends gone.
·         Joy of holding books gone than we prefer E-books now.
·         Cricket and tennis is played online. Even running is done via Templerun!
·         We prefer playing with the machine than with people.
·         We draw on iPad/Tablet and not on paper.
·       Even a piano is played through app and not by tapping on the keys of a real one!

And the list goes on and on…

Some days before, I noticed that E-mail will inform if we forget to attach a file after typing something which implies that we are attaching something. It also cautions that we have not typed subject!

Damn! We don’t even have to remember the spellings and keep a watch on what we type. After all, the spelling and grammar check of MS Office will take care of it.

And I am feeling sorry for myself and all of us…
Yes! All of us… Not a single soul is spared by the pests named Computer, mobile phone and most importantly internet…

Life has changed tremendously and so has the life style!

  1. I wholeheartedly welcome the changes in life in the recent years. In another five or ten years, you would condemn all the gadgets you proudly possess now as junk.

    1. I agree that all these gadgets will be out soon and will be replaced with something more sophisticated.

  2. One thing we have to be careful is "auto-correct". It can land us to trouble. One blogger wrote a post about it. She said she wrote "love this post" and the computer automatically corrected it to "love this porn".

But they are making us lazy and foolish!

  4. Sometimes, they are a blessing in the Long run . But then like you pointed out, they devoid us of the little happiness that brings a smile on our faces when there is a personal touch involved in our deeds. Especially calling some one.. or turning up at some friends place for a chit chat, it is true. But then most of believe in going where the mob goes, !

  5. Hmm . I agree and I do disagree. Hand written letters- well well would we get the same intimate feeling reading an email? I'm not sure either way. But books yes absolute no to e books. You hold the soul of the writer in your palm while you read a book but an e- book - my foot it is cruelly impersonal.

  6. i am in absolute agreement with this! everyone praises technology...in some ways i hate it.

i think this is why i enjoy old vintage books so much...they feel like a fresh escape...no cell phones, no computers...people wrote letters and took trains. life was simple, the little things were the important things.

the use of internet and social media has taken the meaning from life and life's experiences...everything is just thrown out there, talked about, joked about, looked at by everyone and anyone...not even interpersonal relationships seem 'personal' anymore!

  7. I agree with your thoughts, but, I do look at it positively, at least I can keep in touch with my loved ones with a click on FB, better than nothing at all, my 85 year old father can spend good time on his I pad, if not otherwise, he wouldn't have much to kill his time at that age,I can digitally paint if my arthritis gets worse :-))

    1. I agree with you Padmaja. My worry comes when people prefer such virtual world and gadgets to the real one... When they consider it as a substitute.
