My shadow

You were my shadow.
Always following.
But, I didn’t give enough attention
For the sun shone brightly
Spreading warmth and happiness
Igniting love and blissfulness.

And, when the sunset
Slowly, darkness evaded
I realized my loneliness
I missed my shadow.
I looked around for a tiny ray of hope;

But, there was nothing around – only darkness!

  2. Without the light, we lose our shadow. Our ever present companion.
Sadly, those we fail to give attention to, far too often disappear
from our lives - and only then do we notice.

  3. How beautiful yet sad. Very true that those disappear never come back.

  4. "And, when the sunset
    Slowly, darkness evaded"
Perhaps darkness should pervade ,when the sun sets and cannot evade, don't you think?
BTW , the fascination for ones shadow is unique .

    1. "Pervade" is the word I guess... Thanks...
And its not the fascination for the shadow.. But about the people whom we take for granted... We realise that they are gone only when they are really gone!

      Thanks Anil :)

  9. Nice...thats how we function..We ignore the ones with us when we are happy; miss them when we are lonely and sad. By the way; "And, when the sunset
Slowly, darkness evaded..... " - Did you mean darkness pervaded?

  11. Alas, one can really see the shadow only when we're facing away from the light. Nicely written, SR.

  12. A good reminder of how we sometimes tend to take things for granted until they are gone.

  13. This reminds me of my faithful shadow in high school, how I took him for granted........we lost touch, but reconnected twenty years later.....once again, i missed the clues and lost him to suicide shortly after. Big message.......however, as Sumana commented, after darkness, the dawn always comes around again. Beautiful writing.
