I picked this book for 2 reasons - it had this beautiful cover and i heard only good things. At 334 pages, first 2/3rd was a drag. A pain to read. The last 1/3rd especially after Odysseus is introduced, the book picked pace and held my attention
.
The book is about Circe, the daughter of Helios and the witch of Aiaia. She is an immortal enchantress who mostly lives a lonely life filled with angst. She finds joy in witchcraft. She is exiled and seen as a shame by the Titans and Olympians. This is the story of resilience and how she battles against her blood and for her identity
.
It was a difficult read for me as i am not that familiar with the Greek mythology. Though i have to admit that i was intrigued. It is said that Circe has lived thousands of years until she chose death. Ironically, i felt like i spent a thousand years to finish this. It was an excruciating exercise. While i liked the premise, the narrative didn't keep me hooked to it. I learnt about the war of Troy, Odysseus, Medea, Scylla, Hermes and many others. But in vignettes. I googled to learn more. But there were so many versions that i was more confused in the end
.
I hoped to reflect. I hoped to read some words of wisdom. But i got a raw and detailed as is description
.
Recommend it if you are a mythology enthusiast
