My Thoughts
The movie begins with an awesome speech by Shamitabh himself. Dhanush’s
honest and impeccable expression echoed by a super-strong voice of Amitabh Bachchan
sounds different and intriguing at the same time.
And then, the audience start tasting a different flavor of cinema.
The plot of Shamitabh is very different. The screenplay is woven
accordingly. Ilaiyaraja’s background score blends with the mood of the movie and
takes it to a different level. “Dard-e-Fillum”, “Pidley” and “Sanata” remains
in our hearts; very much hummable.
Dhanush as Daanish whose
vocal cord is paralysed is spontaneous and injects realism into the character. His
tears brings tears to our eyes, his anger makes us angry too, his helplessness
affects us and altogether his acting makes us empathize him. Amitabh Bachchan as Amitabh Sinha, a
failed actor with a strong voice, showcases cynicism at its best. When he says
that he fears living human beings than the dead, we believe him; we feel for
him. Akshara Hassan as an Assistant
Director Akshara, is stuck between super-talented, egoistic and super-selfish
Daanish and Amitabh. She acts as the bridge who connects them and also as a strict
parent who controls them when they fight like kids.
There are several light moments in the film - A scene where little
Daanish acts in front of his school teacher and Picturisation of “Pidley” song
per se to mention a couple of them. An unexpected climax will spellbind the
audience.
Akshara Hassan is very promising and looking forward to see her
acting! Director Balki’s obsession with Ilaiyaraja and Big B is apparent all
through the movie. Hats off to the director for making such a script and the Mr
Bachchan for taking up this challenge – to act as an alcohol addict with shades
of grey. Dhanush, I have no words to say. You are here to stay. That’s all I
can say!
In spite of a stunning premise and stellar performances, the
screenplay fails. Amitabh’s monologues becomes monotonous and redundant. The
relationship between Daanish and Amitabh is not properly established. Barring a
few moments, most of them look redundant.
Watch it for its premise and performance. Monotony can be pardoned
I guess!

I am an ardent Dhanush fan. I love everything about him. After
all, I have seen him evolve as an actor. Having establishing my love for him, I
think I can confess that I missed his voice in the movie.
Thanks for the warning. I love Dhanush as an actor.

Hello, greetings and good wishes.
ReplyDeleteExcellent commentary on the movie to make one clearly understand the good and bad points and to decide whether to watch the movie or not. Commenting on a movie requires great skill and a keen sense of observation. Surely, you are an expert.
I was a fan of Amitab and Rajesh Khanna once upon a time. Now I am not so sure. Dhanush from your write up appears to be a promising actor. Surely I must watch this movie and judge for myself.
Best wishes
Dhanush is really amazing... I am sure that you would appreciate his performance...
DeleteThanks for those motivating words sir. I am thankful for them :)
