My Thoughts
Murugan (Karunas) is dumb; but is an ardent party worker. When his
wife (Saranya Ponvannan) gives birth to twin boys, one is named as Kodi (Dhanush)
and other as Anbu (Dhanush again), Murugan pledges that Kodi would be a
politician when he grows up. However, as a protest against a factory whose
toxic mercury waste which has ruined several lives, Murugan sets himself ablaze
in front of Kodi. The rest of the story is about Kodi’s political career, his
girlfriend Rudra (Trisha) and how Anbu’s life eventually gets interlinked with
Kodi’s.
R. S. Durai Senthilkumar’s Kodi has almost everything that a
mass entertainer should have – emotions, drama, fight, love, comedy, sentiment,
revenge, strong villain and what not! In 140 minutes, the movie flies across
like a high speed bullet train. There is not a lagging moment in spite of the
fact that as audience we get a hang of the twists and turns. The dialogs have
mass appeal; so does that stunt scenes. Songs are not great, but choreography
makes it less boring. The background music is a big plus.
After a long time (maybe after Abiyum
Naanum), Trisha has got an opportunity to enact a strong and performance
oriented role. Although she has tried and delivered her best, she often fails in
front of the stellar performer Dhanush. He lives as both Anbu and Kodi; as
usual he steals the show. Especially, towards the end! (I don’t want to give away more details). Saranya Ponvannan as
understanding mother is in her comfort zone. Anupama Parameswaran as Malathi
has limited screen time. Whenever she is present, she has done a decent job. However,
to begin with, not sure why she was present in the movie at all!
Overall, Kodi is a paisa
vasool. A perfect saravedi this Diwali.
Don’t miss this.
